AFTERCARE

It is incredibly important that you properly look after your tattoo. Please follow these simple steps to ensure an easy healing process:

  • Your tattoo will be wrapped by your artist before you leave the studio. Keep the dressing on for up to four hours, then remove the dressing with clean hands and gently wash the tattoo with just water. (If Dermalize Pro has been used by your artist to dress your tattoo keep the dressing on for up to 24 hours.) The tattoo may feel slimy, this is just a bit of blood, plasma, and excess ink. Ensure you gently wash this all away.

  • Gently pat your tattoo dry using paper towels, or let it air dry for a few minutes.

  • Apply a very thin layer of tattoo after care cream e.g. Tattoo Goo, or Easy Tattoo. Softly work the cream into the skin like you would any other moisturiser, do not leave it thick and gloopy on top of the tattoo.

  • Bepanthen is no longer suitable for the healing of tattoos due to a recent change in formula. Hand lotions, body lotions, coconut butter or olive oil are not appropriate for healing tattoos and cannot be used on the tattoo. Please only use tattoo specific aftercare creams.

  • For larger tattoos, or tattoos in awkward places your artist may recommend you keep your tattoo wrapped in clingfilm for the first three days of healing. If so, ensure you change the dressing two to three times a day, cleaning the tattoo each time and redressing with a fresh piece of clingfilm. After the third day, please follow the remaining steps as normal.

  • Apply the cream three to four times a day for the next week to two weeks.

  • Light scabs or flaking may occur, this is a normal part of the healing process, do not pick or scratch.

  • Do not scratch the tattoo, pick it, soak it in the bath, go swimming, sunbathe or use sunbeds for two weeks or until the tattoo is fully healed.

  • It is ok to get your tattoo wet in the shower, just don't soak it for too long or scrub at it with a shower pouf.

  • Keep the tattoo clean throughout the healing process. Change your bed linen frequently, be careful around animals (due to hair) and dusty environments as this can cause infection.

  • It is normal for some swelling and discomfort during healing. If your tattoo becomes painful, feels hot, develops a rash/spots, has unusual discharge or smell please contact us as soon as possible so we can assess possible problems.

  • Light exercise is acceptable during healing.
